3mm-6mm TeleVue Nagler Zoom Eyepiece (50 deg.)
The exceptional zoom eyepiece is the Nagler Zoom, a special high-performance eyepiece with a variable focus from 3 mm to 6 mm, designed to provide the optimum magnification for planetary observation with short focal length telescopes, such as high-power apo refractors.
The imaging is excellent and – what is new – the apparent field remains constant throughout the zoom range. Click-on stops define the 6 mm, 5 mm, 4 mm and 3 mm positions, allowing the observer to select any value between them.
The American company TeleVue started the revolution of ultra-wide field eyepieces with the Nagler eyepiece back in 1979. Of course, today's eyepieces have undergone significant changes, thanks to computer design, state-of-the-art glass materials and anti-reflection coatings, so today they are the best eyepieces in the 82 degree category.
The 82-degree field of view shows three times the area of a traditional Plössl eyepiece at a given magnification. Although the field of view (LM) is not significantly sharper in the center than a Plössl, the imaged area is much larger and significantly sharper apart from the center. You could say that the image is corrected from wall to wall. The large field of view gives an experience as if we were looking straight into space from the window of a spaceship. The experience is completely different than with a traditional eyepiece.
In addition to the excellent color correction and minimal ghosting, the wind correction remains perfect even in bright telescopes, so we can safely use it in telescopes with an aperture of F/5 or F/4. A large field of view is especially important in Dobsonian telescopes, as it is much easier to search and track, and at a given magnification we can continue to look at an object before it \"crashes\" out of the image. Due to the strong coma error in f/4 Newtonian telescopes, it is worth using a coma corrector to achieve perfect edge correction.
Models between 2.5mm and 16mm fit into a 1.25" extension tube, from 17mm upwards they can only be used in a 2" extension tube.
More about the product
The TeleVue from US has started the revolution of the ultra-wide eyepieces with their Nagler eyepieces in 1979. Following the technical advancements these eyepieces are still represent the top quality for the wide angle eyepieces.
The 82° field of view is three times the field of view of a usual Plossl eyepiece. Although the sharpness is only slightly better at the center than the Plossl eyepiece, the field is much bigger and sharper. Provides the so called \"spacewalk\" feeling, quite different from the narrow-angle eyepieces.
The excellent correction at the edges and minimal ghosting is still valid in fast telescopes, so the eyepieces can be used in F/5 or in F/4 scopes as well. In case of F/4 newtonian telescopes a coma corrector is recommended.
Eyepieces between 2.5mm and 16mm can be fit into standard 1.25\" focusers, while 17mm and up require 2\" focusers.
