The Scmidt-Cassegrain telescopes have been very popular especially in North America, even though they deliver slightly less contrasty images compared to Maksutov telescopes with smaller central obstruction. The Celestron SC telescopes contain high quality optics which result in sharp and contrasty images of the planets (assuming the weather conditions are perfect and the telescope has reached the ambient temperature). Focusing is done by moving the primary mirror, meaning that it is possible to reach focus with almost all accessories.

The telescopes are available in wide range of apertures, from 12,5 cm (5\") up to 35,5 cm (14\"). The telescopes can be mounted using their standard dovetail plates.

Pros

Ekkora tükörátmérő mellett egy hagyományos Newtonhoz képest könnyebb szállíthatóság. Nagy nagyítás mellett is elfogadható kontraszt (peresze ez légkörfüggő, de amikor a próbát végeztem, a légköri nyugodtság 8-as lehetett).

Cons

Ár - persze ez minden valamirevaló optikára igaz, ez pedig egy remek optika, úgyhogy végső soron lehet drága. Tömeg - sajnos ez a nagyobb gond, felszerelve 13 kg. Persze még így is elmarad egy hasonló tükörátmérőjű Newtonhoz képest, de érdemes edzőterembe járni, mielőtt egyedül felrakjuk az állványra.
