Reading cylinders and reading spheres are larger devices made of Plexiglas, containing a single lens, with a magnification of about 2-3x. They are placed on the text to be read and moved freely. As they do not need to be held, they are not cumbersome to use, even for very elderly people. The reading cylinders contain an elongated magnifying lens mounted on a Plexiglas frame, and the reading sphere is actually a larger Plexiglas hemisphere.
